I’ve performed nano facials on several different skin types, and I have to say, they’re quickly becoming one of my favorite treatments to perform.
We live in a world where we’re constantly seeking instant gratification, and nano facials offer something I love: visible improvements in the skin’s appearance, paired with a treatment that can be customized to individual skin types, concerns, and goals.
What fascinates me most is the technology behind the device and the science behind nano infusion itself. But there’s another important piece to the puzzle: knowing which skincare ingredients to use and why. The technology is only part of the experience. Understanding the skin and choosing the right products is what helps make a treatment truly personalized.
The Technology Behind Nano Infusion
Nano infusion is performed using a handheld device equipped with a specialized tip containing tiny, medical-grade silicone pyramids. These pyramids are designed to create microchannels in the outermost layer of the skin, helping topical skincare products absorb more effectively.
At Lei Theory, I use the Rezenerate device with its Blue Tip. According to the manufacturer, standard topical product absorption is approximately 10–20%, while the Rezenerate Blue Tip can increase absorption by 40–50%.
The tip is made with 99% pure, monocrystalline silicon, featuring uniform nanopyramids designed for consistent, gentle product infusion. The treatment also stimulates circulation in the skin, encouraging blood flow and supporting processes associated with collagen production and cellular rejuvenation.
What makes this technology especially interesting to me is how it combines a specialized delivery method with professional skincare products. Instead of choosing a treatment based on the device alone, I can customize the products used according to what a client’s skin needs.
Understanding Your Skin Barrier
To understand nano infusion, it helps to know a little about the skin’s structure.
The stratum corneum is the outermost layer of the epidermis, our skin’s first line of defense. It is primarily made up of corneocytes, which are mature cells formed from keratinocytes, surrounded by protective lipids that help maintain the skin barrier and reduce moisture loss.
Our skin naturally sheds dead cells through a process called desquamation. This process helps maintain a smoother, more even-looking complexion. When the shedding process becomes less efficient, dead skin cells can accumulate, contributing to a dull or rough appearance.
This is one reason exfoliation can be a useful part of some skincare routines. By helping remove excess dead skin cells, appropriate exfoliation can improve the appearance and feel of the skin. However, more exfoliation does not automatically mean better results.
The skin barrier needs to remain healthy to protect against external irritants and retain moisture. Over-exfoliating, particularly when the skin is sensitive, dry, or prone to redness, can contribute to irritation and compromise the barrier.
That’s why I don’t believe exfoliation should automatically be part of every nano facial preparation. I consider the client’s skin condition, sensitivities, current routine, and treatment goals before deciding whether exfoliation is appropriate.
Nano infusion focuses on the outermost layer of the skin, making it different from treatments designed to penetrate more deeply. Understanding the skin barrier helps me make more informed decisions about preparing the skin and selecting products for the treatment.
Why Skincare Ingredients Matter
The device is only one part of the equation. The products used during a nano facial matter just as much.
Different skin concerns call for different approaches. Dehydrated skin may benefit from ingredients that help attract and retain moisture, while sensitive or redness-prone skin may need a more soothing, barrier-conscious approach. Other clients may be looking to improve the appearance of uneven texture or fine lines.
This is where my knowledge of skincare ingredients and my experience working with different skin types come together. I consider the condition of the skin, the client’s goals, and the products best suited to support those goals before choosing a treatment approach.
At Lei Theory, I use professional skincare from KrX Aesthetics and customize treatments based on the needs of each client. My goal is not to give everyone the same facial. It’s to understand their skin and make thoughtful choices about the products and techniques used.
What Can You Expect From a Nano Facial?
One of my favorite things about nano facials is that the treatment is painless for many clients, requires no intentional downtime, and can leave the skin looking smoother, more hydrated, and refreshed.
Because the treatment is customizable, it can be incorporated into different skincare plans depending on the client’s skin condition and goals. Nano facials may be performed as often as once a week when appropriate for the individual and the treatment protocol.
As with any professional skincare service, the best approach depends on the person sitting in my treatment chair. Skin sensitivity, current skincare products, and individual concerns all play a role in determining what is appropriate. This includes deciding whether exfoliation or other preparation is beneficial before treatment.
The Lei Theory Approach
What I love most about nano facials is the combination of technology, ingredient knowledge, and personalization. The device is fascinating, but the real value comes from understanding how to use it thoughtfully and selecting products that complement the client’s skin.
Skincare shouldn’t be about chasing every new treatment or expecting one service to solve everything. It should be about understanding your skin, choosing appropriate treatments, and building a plan around your goals.
At Lei Theory, my goal is to help you feel informed, cared for, and confident in the choices you make for your skin.
